Monday - 04/05/2021 — During the last heavy rainstorm we had around here, a tree branch fell onto the gutter over my front porch and dented it. Luckily the water still flows into the downspout, and the downspout still drains into the water-garden area of my yard. The downspout is a totally utilitarian white tube. It’s not remarkable in any way whatsoever.
It got me to thinking about the way downspouts used to be designed. Like this gargoyle that was photographed by Gigi Pandian (and used with her permission). I don’t know whether this building was in Italy or England, but I do recall it was rife with gargoyles at each roof drainage spot.
Wouldn’t it be fun to have gargoyles on our houses nowadays? Wonder how I could make that happen?
